My Learning and Development Philosophy
Learning is an active, dynamic process that leaves its best impression on the learner when it is centered around the learner’s thinking. Factual information has little to no value until it is processed, understood and applied by a thinking mind to connect the dots between learning and practical application. How someone thinks is more important than the accumulation of information. Effectively impacting a learner has little to do with teaching and more to do with facilitating a learning process that affects, changes, or enhances the thoughts of a learner. Thinking is a process practiced in various methods: hands-on demonstrations, simulations, trial and error, scenarios, role-play, as well as more traditional styles of learning.
3 Key Factors to Lead Successful Learning and Development Initiatives:
- Educational experiences driven by internal motivators from the learner and uses their individualized life experiences as learning resources to create meaningful connections that facilitate development in a practical application relevant to the learner
- Partnerships formed between the learner and the learning facilitator where both the learner and learning facilitator take an active participating role in the learning cycle by continuous contribution and feedback
- A learning environment that offers resourceful tools for learning, an openness to new ideas/concepts/diversity, and is adaptable, flexible to the learner and their desired method of learning
